Getting the Rust Off

Sailing season has officially begun! We have had super great weather, and the opportunity to spend five days under the sun and on the water. The first day of sailing proved to be champagne sailing, with good breeze and warm weather. The sailing was amazing until one of our boat parts broke, which lead us to a chilly bath in Lake Ontario. (Avoid at all costs, it will take your breath away.) While this did cut our training session short, we are fortunate enough in that it is a quick fix, once we get our part in. Our training partners, Will Jones and Evan DePaul, were generous enough to let us borrow their boat for the remainder of the weekend. We focused on volume: we did as many tacks and gybes as possible. We wanted to focus on getting back our feel for the boat, and focus on talking about what we were feeling. These training days reminded us of the pure pleasure we get from sailing, and we hope to maintain that enthusiasm forever. We are looking forward to starting full time training in June with a few other boats, and our coach!
